For a while now, I’ve been toying with the idea of cutting fish from my diet. I’m the kind of person who binges when I tell myself not to have anything, so it’s best if things happen organically. This past month I’ve had fish once, and it wasn’t pretty. It didn’t taste right, it didn’t feel right, and there was nothing appetizing about it. In short, I didn’t want it. I still don’t want it. I’m not craving it.
I haven’t been hungry, lethargic, I’ve not been missing out on vital nutrients and food groups. I’m healthy for the most part.. well I did pull a muscle while exercising, and had a carpal tunnel kinda episode while dealing with my niece’s hair, but that has nothing to do with food, so let’s move it along. I didn’t set out not to eat anything but the meatless food groups this month, but that’s how it ended up. I had barbecue, and sweet and sour, burgers, pasta.. I ate, and I didn’t miss out of any flavours. It can be done, you can have a fully nutritional diet, not miss meat and be ok with people who eat meat…someone tell that to THE organization that likes to guilt people into being meatless… I don’t know what it’ll be like when I’m around saltfish and herring, but for the time, I’m real good without any (as the Rasta would say “deadas”) flesh. Someone recently told me that I’ve introduced them to new food options via social media interactions. That’s the entire point of this blog. To show people who might want to eat less meat or none altogether, that there are options that aren’t the “look like meat” products, and that aren’t tasteless. So thank my mom for that, this was her idea. By the way, I’m not saying those “like meat” products are tasteless, eat what you like, I’ve never had them, I don’t see the point of not eating meat but eating something that resembles it, but that’s just my preference. We’ll see how it goes when I’m around less choice and the smell of bul jol hits my nose.

How did I not know of this blog before?? Nice article. I know a couple people who have actually transitioned from fish only to full vegetarian, and have had the same experience as you.
